Weighbridges or Truck Scales are large scales that are usually mounted permanently on Steel Foundation that are used to weigh entire vehicle and their contents. By weighing the vehicle both empty and when loaded, the load carried by the vehicle can be calculated. Weighbridges can be of the following designs:
SURFACE MOUNTED - With a ramp leading up a short distance and the weighing equipments underneath. PIT MOUNTED (PIT TYPE) - With a weighing equipment and platform in a pit so that the weighing surface is level with the road. MOBILE WEIGHBRIDGES - Where no foundation is required, just smooth and hard surface on which the load cells plates rest. Weighbridges are typically built from steel or concrete and by nature are extremely robust. In earlier versions, the weighbridge is installed over a rectangular pit that contains levers that ultimately connect to a balance mechanism. Modern devices use multiple load cells that connect to electronic equipment to totalize the sensor inputs. The weight readings are typically recorded in a nearby hut or office. Many weighbridges are now linked to a personal computer which runs truck scale software capable of printing tickets and providing reporting feature.
Some of the features are:- 1. Maintenance Free, long life, consistent performance & fast response. 2. No moving parts, therefore no inaccuracy due to wear & tear. 3. Very low requirement of Pit reducing civil costs. 4. Eliminating human error, better control facilities & data collection.
